After they have signed up, you will then send them the “bait” via email. This is what building up an email list is about in a nutshell.

However, building a responsive email list requires much more effort (than simply getting your prospects to opt-in). In this article, I am going to share with you 5 essential tips that will help you build a responsive email list.

Equipped with these 5 tips, you will be able to get your subscribers to respond to any email you send (and that includes taking action to click on the links within the emails and purchase any products/services you recommend)

Therefore, you need to make sure that, as soon as your prospect opts in (and confirms his/her subscription), you send him/her an email immediately with the link to download the “bait” which you have promised in your opt-in page.

In case you are wondering what kind of informational emails you should send out – You can send them “how-to” emails (where you show them how to perform certain tasks), tips (where you share with them a tip or two you have just discovered on how to simplify a task), or providing answers to some burning questions in the niche.

As for promotional emails, they are emails you send out where you promote a product/service (that you own or you are promoting as an affiliate).

Now comes the question on the ratio of the number of informational (and promotional) emails that you should send out – I would recommend that you send out 1 to 2 promotional emails with every 3 to 4 informational emails you send out.

i. Conducting A Survey – You can conduct a short, simple survey to find out what your subscribers want (and you cater the content of your emails that you send out to them in future based on the response you receive)

ii. Asking An Open-Ended Question – You could bring up a hot topic for discussion where you share your opinions briefly (in 2 to 3 short paragraphs) and thereafter, ask them for their opinions.

iii. Offer Assistance – You can send out emails from time-to-time asking your subscribers if there are any burning questions that they want to have answered. Make sure that, when you receive their questions, you answer them (and do it promptly, preferably within 24 to 48 hours).

Keep the tone of your message casual – You can write your email messages in a “speak as you write” manner, where you convert what you want to say into words (in exactly the way you want to say it).

It is proven that these types of email messages are more well-received compared to those that are written in a formal manner.
